There is nothing to report from Shataukok.

In last week's report I stated that General

Wu Him's troops had been ousted from Tai Chau and from the

territory between there and irs Bay; also that part of the

Mirs Bay hinterland had been occupied by newly enlisted troops

comprised of ex-soldiers of the old "Yuet Kan", under the

7 supposed leadership of Lo Kwan. I stated that the political situation was somewhat obscure, but premised that these re-

formed "Yuet Kwan" were, nominally at least, subordinate to

Centon.

However, enquiries made during the past week

has disclosed the fact that these "Yuet Kwan" troops were

subordinate neither to Lo Kwan nor Canton, but, that, led by

Pt. 412 BA

赖 全 美 an ex-officer of General Chan Kwing Ming, named Lai Chun Ying,

had staged a minor military coup on their own. It appears that Lai Chun Ying who of late has gained notoriety as a

bandit leader - declined to answer the call to arms made by

Lo Kwan, accusing the latter of defection from the old Chan

And so, while General i Hon fan and his troops were busily

engaged against General Wu Him, Lai Chun Ying collected

together over 300 of the old "Yuet Kwan" and proceeded to

occupy the principal towns immediately to the north and east
